This procedure may be done for a variety of reasons, including implant-related complications, personal preference, or health concerns. The goal of this surgery is to restore the natural appearance of the breasts and may be coupled with other procedures to further enhance the aesthetic result such as capsulectomy, mastopexy (breast lift) or fat transfer.
Patients experiencing implant-related complications such as capsular contracture or implant rupture, those dissatisfied with the appearance or feel of their implants and patients with health concerns related to their implants are all candidates for this procedure. Breast implant removal can normally be performed using incisions that incorporate previous surgery scars and therefore new additional scarring may not be necessary.
