Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty
An abdominoplasty (or tummy tuck) is a procedure to improve the appearance and / or function of your abdomen.
Procedure time | 2-3 hours |
Anaesthetic type | General |
Day case or overnight | Daycase – No Drains |
Downtime/recovery | 2-3 weeks |
Changes to the shape and profile of your abdomen / trunk occur because of aging, lifestyle, pregnancy and weight fluctuations / loss. This can cause the abdomen to have excess thin skin / overhang / apron, abdominal bulge, disproportion / altered / unbalanced contour between your abdomen / flanks and or back and or separation of the abdominal wall muscles (rectus divarication). Although exercises can improve the tone of these muscles, they do not bring them back towards the midline again.
These can impact self-consciousness, how you feel in certain clothing and / or swimwear and the ability to undertake certain activities involving use of core strength.
There are a variety of abdominal contouring procedures. They vary with respect to incision placement / length, tissue removal, areas treated, muscle repair and may also use adjuncts like liposuction. It aims to restore a more proportionate, flatter, firmer, contoured abdominal shape – helping to improve confidence and the psychological and social impact it has on individuals.
