About the Vein Clinic


Varicose veins come in a variety of types. Depending on the types of veins you suffer from, a number of treatment options are available.

Welcome The Vein Clinic at Fitzwilliam Clinic with over 15 years experience in the management of varicose veins and cosmetic treatment of thread and broken veins

We undertake full clinical assessment by a  specialist vascular surgeon. The latest ultrasound equipment is used as part of that assessment

We offer a complete range of treatment options:

Conventional varicose vein surgery,

Endothermal ablation,

Eclerotherapy,

Foam sclerotherapy

Microsclerotherapy.

 We DO NOT use or recommend creams or laser treatment on the skin for thread veins. We believe we offer the best range of treatments

 A number of keyhole procedures are now available that offer reliable alternatives to conventional surgery.

 

Colin Weir

Mr Colin Weir FRCSEdin, FRCSEng

Colin Weir is a consultant vascular surgeon who qualified from Queen’s University, Belfast in 1984 and made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1988, and The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007. He is an honorary clinical lecturer at Queen’s University, Belfast

He is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland

Using the latest technology and techniques in the management of Varicose Veins, he  brings a complete range of techniques for vein and cosmetic vein treatment with experience of over 200 procedure per year

He is a member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists

Mr Alastair Lewis MD., FRCS

Alastair Lewis is a consultant vascular surgeon. Since taking up post in 2007 he has been appointed an honorary lecture in surgery at Queens University, Belfast and examiner with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Mr Lewis has trained in keyhole and cosmetic vein procedures in Dublin and London, and is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain & Ireland, and the British Association of Sclerotherapists.

He performs over 200 surgical and keyhole varicose vein operations per year and has extensive experience of the cosmetic management of thread veins on the legs, face and other part of the body.

 

 

Miss Julie Reid MD FRCS

Julie Reid graduated from Queens University Belfast where she was also awarded a Doctorate of Medicine for her research in carotid artery disease. On completion of her Fellowship examination in General Surgery with a subspecialist interest in Vascular Surgery, Miss Reid focussed on the treatment of venous disease and lymphoedema in Leeds Vascular Institute.

She returned to take up her post in The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust in February 2010.

She offers consultations in all aspects of vascular surgery particularly venous disease and has a large amount of experience in the latest minimally invasive techniques for treating varicose veins and thread veins.

Treatments offered in the Fitzwilliam Clinic are tailored to the patient’s specific needs whether that is cosmetic improvement, relief of symptoms or prevention of future complications such as bleeding and ulcers. These treatments include endovenous radiofrequency and ultrasound guided foam sclerotherapy  and microsclerotherapy.
