Juvéderm® Q&A

What makes the Juvéderm® ULTRA range of products so special?

The Juvéderm® ULTRA range of products is the only line of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers that offers customisable results proven to last up to 12 months. It’s currently the only HA filler to include an anaesthetic that makes the experience more comfortable for you. It is also very smooth and natural looking, meaning that although people may notice a difference, they won’t know you’ve had anything done!

What exactly is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. Natural hyaluronic acid is broken down by the body in one or two days so is constantly replaced—as we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturising and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease. Hyaluronic acid is used for aesthetic treatments, and has been used by doctors for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as eye surgery.

How long is an appointment?

The injection process takes a mere 15-30 minutes, you’ll also need to allow time to discuss what you are hoping to achieve with your medical practitioner before treatment.

Will the procedure hurt?

The smooth consistency of the Juvéderm® ULTRA range of products allows your medical practitioner to administer it easily and smoothly. It also contains 0.3% lidocaine to reduce injection pain for a more comfortable experience.

Will I notice the difference right away?

Yes, the aesthetic results are immediate. You’ll see the results as soon as your appointment is over—and no one else needs to know!

Are there any side effects?

Following injection, you may experience slight redness, swelling or bruising at the injected area. Your surgeon will advise you on this.  However, do not hesitate to get in touch with your medical practitioner in the unlikely event that these reactions last longer than a week or if you experience other side effects. All skin injection procedures carry a small risk of infection.

How long will the effects last?

This depends on a number of factors including

  • Age
  • The area you have had treated
  • Quantity of Juvéderm® ULTRA injected
  • Quality of skin
  • Lifestyle
  • Healthiness

However, the Juvéderm® ULTRA range of products is the only line of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers proven to last up to one year in nose to mouth lines.

Is there anything I need to know before I have the treatment?

We advise you to avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a couple of days before your anti-wrinkle treatment (unless they are taken for chronic medical conditions). Avoiding these medications will reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the point of injection. Ask your medical practitioner if you have any concerns.

When will I need another injection?

Many patients like to book touch-up injections as well as repeat injections to maintain the effects of treatment. Ask your medical practitioner for advice about aftercare.

Amongst the options available to treat lines and wrinkles, is Juvederm, which contains hyaluronic acid. Dermal fillers are a popular choice because they effectively diminish the signs of ageing and rehydrate the skin instantly.
